The logo represents the team approach of overcoming obstacles (waves) brought about by climate change. Changes in earth’s abiotic (light and dark blue wave) and biotic (yellow green and dark green wave) components are represented by the two C-shaped waves. The opposing nature of the two components suggests that both biotic and abiotic components are inter-related and are affected by each other. Amidst these continuing changes in the environment, four wa‘a (canoes), representing ecology, culture, economics and policy, sail together and navigate the rough waters. The act of successfully sailing across the rough “sea of change” is evocative of finding solutions to the challenges Hawai‘i is facing with climate change. The four aspects must work together to find solutions for navigating the rough waters.
